The C295 makes impression at world’s largest military air show

May 4, 2010

The C295 has become a mainstay at industry events and air shows around the world, demonstrating both its form and function to professional attendees and aviation enthusiasts alike.

A notable appearance for this Airbus Military-built multi-purpose airlifter was at the 2009 Royal International Air Tattoo, where a Brazilian Air Force C295 won top honours for its unique and distinctive livery (photo at right).

Utilising stickers as opposed to traditional painting methods, the aircraft represented one of the event’s overall themes: “Sea Search.” Fittingly, this same C295 previously was deployed in search and recovery efforts after an Air France jetliner crashed in the Atlantic last year.

Brazil is in the process of replacing their obsolete Buffalo aircraft with Airbus Military C295 aircraft. Twelve C295s in transport configuration already have been purchased, with eight more being planned – four of which will be fully SAR-configured.

Held annually at RAF (Royal Air Force) Fairford in Gloucestershire, UK, the Royal International Air Tattoo is the world’s largest military air show – with more than 300 aircraft on display and upwards of 170,000 visitors each year. The 2010 edition is set for 17-18 July.

Airbus Military Canada will underscore the proven capabilities of its C295 to key decision makers at CANSEC 2010, the nation’s largest defence and security trade show – which is scheduled for 2-3 June in Ottawa, Ontario.

The C295 is being proposed for Canada’s demanding Fixed Wing Search and Rescue replacement program. Operated in SAR and maritime patrol worldwide, the C295 is the only aircraft that meets or exceeds the operational requirements recommended by the National Research Council for Canada’s next generation SAR aircraft.
