C295 expands its order book with new contracts in 2009
February 5, 2010
The C295 continued to see robust sales and deliveries in 2009, underscoring the reliable, effective service this tactical transport provides in search and rescue, maritime patrol, transportation, and other missions.
During the year, Airbus Military signed orders for a total of 19 aircraft from its tactical airlifter family – 16 C295s, two CN235s and one C212 – from seven customers. The Czech Air Force ordered four C295s in 2009 while the Mexican Air Force purchased five of these multi-mission aircraft to join its existing fleet of C212 and CN235 aircraft used in search and rescue operations.
Of the seven customers in 2009, four were new while three placed repeat orders, demonstrating the growing strength of Airbus Military’s light and medium product range in the marketplace. The aircraft were ordered as military transporters, as well as for humanitarian and civic missions such as maritime surveillance and environmental control.
A total of 16 aircraft from the Airbus Military tactical transport family were delivered to nine customers during 2009, consisting of 11 C295s and five CN235s. Four more are being processed for their handover.
The C295 is a candidate for Canada’s demanding Fixed Wing Search and Rescue replacement program mission requirement. Approximately 20 per cent of each C295 is of Canadian content, providing a key role for Canada’s technology and manufacturing base in the aircraft’s international success.
A key milestone in 2009 was the formal integration of the former EADS Military Transport Aircraft Division as an Airbus business unit. This brought additional resources to the C295 program. In addition to its C295 responsibility, Airbus Military is now in charge of all EADS military transport aircraft, ranging from the tactical C212 and CN235, to the A330 Multi-role Tanker Transport (MRTT) and the A400M heavy-lift multi-role airlifter.
