Initial C-295 delivered to the Czech Air Force

February 1, 2010

The Czech Air Force received the first of four C-295s on schedule last month, acquired by the Czech Republic’s Ministry of Defense in May 2009.

These new airlifters will replace the service’s fleet of Antonov An-26 aircraft.  The Czech Air Force joins nations such as Poland, Finland, Portugal, Brazil, Chile, Jordan and Spain with the multi-role C-295 in their fleets.

The Czech Air Force’s remaining three aircraft will be delivered on schedule before the end of 2010.

Used in humanitarian missions, deployment of rapid reaction forces, SAR and maritime surveillance, the C-295 has proven its quality and operating capabilities in the full range of conditions.

Approximately 20 per cent of each C-295 is of Canadian content, providing a key role for Canada’s technology and manufacturing base in the aircraft’s international success.

The C-295 is powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW127G turboprop engines, while its avionics were developed by Thales Canada. Additionally, CAE provides optional simulation and training systems for the C-295 as part of an agreement with Airbus Military.
