The Mexican Air Force purchases five C295s

January 6, 2010

Airbus Military closed 2009 on a strong note with the sale of five C295 multi-mission aircraft to the Mexican Air Force for transport duties.

The new C295s will join Mexico’s existing fleet of C212 and CN235 aircraft used in search and rescue operations. To date, close to 80 C295 aircraft have been sold to customers worldwide.

State-of-the-art Canadian technology and manufacturing play a key role in the success of this capable, versatile aircraft. About 20 per cent of each C295 is made in Canada, creating and sustaining jobs in the country through global sales.

The C295 is equipped with two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW127G turboprop engines, which provide industry-leading reliability and durability for the aircraft in its multi-mission roles. The PW127G's features include a modular design for easy access and low maintenance, and low fuel consumption.

Avionics used on the C295 were developed by Thales Canada and manufactured at the company’s plant in Montreal, Quebec. Thales’ systems architecture for the aircraft provides cost-efficient growth capability for new sensors and internal equipment.

In addition, Canada-based CAE provides optional simulation and training systems for the C295 as part of an agreement with Airbus Military.
