LARGE AIRCRAFT
Airbus Military’s expertise in aircraft development, production and mission systems outfitting extends beyond its family of C-295, CN-235 and C-212 tactical aircraft.
A330 Multi-role Tanker/Transport (MRTT)
The A330 MRTT is the most capable in-flight refuelling platform available today. It has won the five most recent international competitions, being selected by the U.S. Air Force, the Royal Australian Air Force, U.K. Royal Air Force, the Royal Saudi Air Force and the United Arab Emirates Air Force & Air Defence. Derived from the best-selling A330 widebody twin-engine commercial airliner, the A330 MRTT excels in the full range of operational tanker mission scenarios, and it also has designed-in flexibility for cargo, passengers and aeromedical evacuation.
The A330 MRTT’s significant fuel capacity, combined with high offload rates, ensures that all receiver aircraft can be refuelled efficiently and quickly. Multi-point refuelling allows the A330 MRTT to top off several receiver aircraft simultaneously. Its mix of hose & drogue refuelling system and Airbus Military’s fly-by-wire aerial refuelling boom provides the unique capability to service probe-equipped and slipway-equipped aircraft during the same mission.
A400M
The A400M is a next-generation airlifter designed to replace aging C-130 Hercules and C-160 Transall transports. Developed in an international program, the A400M will have more than twice the payload and volume than its predecessors. This aircraft is tailored for strategic operations (long range, large capacity, high cruise speed) tactical missions (soft-field performance, autonomous ground operation, low speed/low level operations, aerial delivery) and in-theatre tanking operations (receiving, as well as dispensing fuel).
The A400M design incorporates leading state-of-the-art technology including a fly-by-wire flight control system with sidestick controllers, flight envelope protection system and advanced structural design incorporating the extensive use of composite materials. Powered by four high-performance turboprop engines, the A400M will have cruising speeds up to Mach 0.72 at 37,000 ft. Takeoff weight is 141 metric tons, and the maximum payload is 37 metric tons.
A319 Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA)
The A319 MPA is a long-range anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare (ASW), intelligence, reconnaissance and surveillance aircraft, based on the A319 jetliner.
It carries a complete suite of ASW sensors, including surveillance radar with enhanced imaging modes, infrared/electro-optical turret, electronic support measures, acoustic system, and magnetic anomaly detector. The control and management system is based on Airbus Military’s Fully Integrated Tactical System (FITS).
The A319 MPA is fully equipped for anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare including offensive and strike capabilities – and can be armed with torpedoes, depth charges, air-to-surface missiles, mines and other ASW weaponry.
